This is an original WWII US made NOS deep mud muffler. This is the real thing. These mufflers were used to replace the side outlet style used on the early production MB and GPW. The side outlet style was very bad about caking up with dried mud and pulling off. They were also bad about pulling off if the jeep got stuck and had to be pulled out. This late improvement came to use in 1944. The side outlet muffler was relocated to under the rear deck and the tailpipe was turned down. This is seen on quite a few USMC and army jeeps in the Pacific as well as the Combat jeeps in the European theater. By moving the muffler to the rear it didn’t catch mud and didn’t get drug off by being pulled out. This is a very rare original. We have taken the liberty of cleaning the surface rust and stuck on wet packaging off. We have also painted them to keep from further rust while in storage. These are originals and may have a pin hole here and there around the spot welds. Their original color was galvanized silver. These are 100% originals out of Camp Lajune in the late 50’s.
